Kumari Mamta

Postdoctoral Researcher

Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology

I am a linguist with theoretical and practical experience in the morphology of South Asian languages and Indian Sign Language. My research focuses on the morphosyntactic and typological structure of numeral systems, particularly in the tribal and indigenous languages of India.

I am a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Linguistic and Cultural Evolution at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany. As part of QUANTA — Evolution of Cognitive Tools for Quantification, I study the cultural and linguistic drivers of the diversification of numeral systems in Southeast Asia and beyond.

I am passionate about exploring languages and cultures, and about language documentation and preservation.
